ULI New York hosted An Update from NYCEDC with Miriam Harris, the inaugural program of the District Council’s Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) on Wednesday, April 24, at Shearman & Sterling, LLP.
This program marked the New York launch of the Urban Land Institute’s groundbreaking initiative to promote women within the organization and New York City’s real estate industry. Miriam Harris, Senior Vice President of Real Estate Transactions at the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), gave a comprehensive presentation updating attendees on the latest public-private development projects from the NYCEDC, namely their work on the Cornell NYC Tech Campus on Roosevelt Island and the influence it will have on the City’s economic growth and competitiveness. According to Harris, “Cornell NYC Tech campus will increase the number of graduates with engineering degrees in New York City by 70%.”
Following the presentation, Ellen Sinreich, founder and President of Green Edge, LLC and ULI New York WLI Programming Chair moderated a thoughtful question and answer period. Offering up her keys to success in public-private development, Ms. Harris affirmed “Make no small plans – people need to be transfixed by your vision.”
