Working with ULI and the District Councils over the past few months to roll out the Women’s Leadership Initiative locally has been fascinating – every District Council is different and will be modifying the WLI programming to suit the needs of their district and membership.
The WLI’s outreach has been initiated on two levels. First, a welcome letter from WLI is now included in every packet sent to new women members, which includes a link to the WLI Mission Statement, 2013 goals and the WLI web page. The letter cites WLI’s value proposition of offering additional social networking and financial assistance to attend ULI meetings, in addition to local and national programming and women’s receptions at both the Fall and Spring Meetings.
Second, the Women’s Leadership Initiative is being rolled out initially to the 19 District Councils that have Executive Directors. Approximately half have begun selecting local leadership for WLI or started to plan WLI events. The other District Councils are awaiting the terms of their new Chairs to begin on July 1, at which point they will roll out WLI.
A great benefit of the Women’s Leadership Initiative is attracting new women members who have a thirst for contact with other women in real estate. This enthusiasm is a benefit for both the District Councils and national ULI in increasing membership through its outreach to new women ULI members in all categories.
