On January 1, 2024, Local Law 97 came into effect, five years after the groundbreaking emissions control legislation was passed by the NYC Council in May 2019. Over the next three decades, every building in New York City will have to meet a series of gradually more stringent carbon caps, until eventually all buildings will be required to be carbon neutral in 2050. While the goals are ambitious, many building types are carved out from the earliest phases of compliance, and the details of key incentives and penalties were only just revealed by the City in a rules package released in late December. For that reason, many building operators remain uncertain about whether they will be able to comply with the new law this year.

In this Peer to Peer event, YLG members will have to chance to hear directly from two legal experts who are helping their clients to navigate the rapidly changing regulatory landscape surrounding Local Law 97. We’ll have lots of time for questions to help you understand this critical and complex new addition to the NYC regulatory landscape for developers, builders and operators.
