ULI Western New York Presents Placemaking: Buffalo’s Cultural Assets & Private Development
Creating places that inspire the community and allow its people to engage in it has been a key component to Western New York's renaissance. The region is fortunate to have many cultural assets that contribute to that sense of place and identity. Starting with our rich heritage of architecture to our turnaround of our waterfront access, all culminating with the recent expansion of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Western New York has an arts and culture heritage that encourages further development, sparking that inspiration from the private sector to be part of or near those creative places.
Creative placemaking is bringing together art and culture together with real estate development, creating a bridge for the public and private sectors. This collaboration can be diverse and inclusive, while at the same time deliver return on investment.
Juanita Hardy is a ULI Senior Visiting Fellow that has written extensively on the role of cultural assets in placemaking and how private development contributes and benefits from these assets.
