This two-part event will assess the double-pandemic of homelessness and COVID. While recent headlines have focused on the emergency use of commercial hotels to provide shelter and ensure safety for New Yorkers experiencing homelessness during the pandemic, it's also important to continue to think about long-term solutions and build on pre-pandemic efforts to address the challenge of homelessness.
    ● For Part One (Jan 15 noon-1pm), we heard from Jacquelyn Simone, Senior Policy Analyst with Coalition for the Homeless. Jacquelyn introduced the history of how Coalition for the Homeless came to be, what initiatives they implemented to tackle homelessness during COVID, and what long-term strategies they support.

    ● Part Two (Jan 22 noon-1pm) will be with Ellery Gillette, Asst. Commissioner of Capacity Planning and Development with NYC's Department for Homeless Services. Ellery will talk about the Agency’s Turning the Tide plan to address homelessness and transform the shelter system, the City’s unprecedented response to ensure the safety of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness during COVID, and future long-term partnerships the Agency hopes to build with private developers.
