    ULI Western New York’s Young Leaders Group is excited to welcome Ernst Valery in the 2021 installment of our Secrets of Success series. Mr. Valery is the Co-Managing Member of SAA | EVI, a real estate development and investment group that has offices in Miami, Baltimore, and Buffalo, New York. The company has over 3,000 units in its portfolio and is currently developing more than 1,500 units across New York State, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and California with a combined total project cost of approximately $500M.
     
    Mr. Valery will discuss his upbringing, how he started in real estate development, and the journey that led him to becoming the Principal of SAA | EVI, which was founded in 1976 as Stuart Alexander & Associates, Inc. Mr. Valery will also talk about his philosophy of development without displacement and his newest fund, The Aequo Fund, which focuses on investing in black, brown, and immigrant developers.

    Since 1976, SA+A Development (SAA) has worked with community leaders, governments, and investment partners to rebuild neighborhoods and urban centers. Beginning with the completion of one of the first Low Income Housing Tax Credit deal in New York State, SA+A has spearheaded innovations in the creations of affordable housing.
     
    Ernst Valery Investments Corp is a private real estate investment firm established in 2001 and incorporated in 2004 with the purpose of investing in select underserved and undervalued key emerging domestic markets. In 2017, SA+A and EVI joined forces to become SAA | EVI.     About Ernst Valery
    Mr. Valery is the Co-Managing Member of SAA | EVI and shares overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations and execution of SAA | EVI projects and relationships. Mr. Valery has successfully developed over 3,000 units across Maryland, D.C., Pennsylvania, Virginia, California, and New York. Mr. Valery is also active in social entrepreneurship and volunteer work, including a collaboration with a team of professionals and graduates from Massachusetts Institute of Technology Community Innovators Lab (MIT CoLab) as well as efforts at incubating
    businesses around the world that help alleviate poverty and increase the earning potential of low-income individuals, families, and communities. Most recently, Mr. Valery launched The Aequo Fund, a $6.6M fund that invests in
    black, brown, women, and immigrant real estate developers.
     
    About the Moderator
    Connor Kenney is a Developer who works with Ernst Valery at SAA | EVI. Currently, Mr. Kenney is overseeing the development of over 675 units with a total combined project cost of approximately $270M. Mr. Kenney attended SUNY Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning where he received a Masters of Science in Real Estate
    Development.
