About the Climate and Sustainability Council
The built environment is responsible for ~40% of total global greenhouse gas emissions and will be among the most impacted by its consequences. As such, sustainability and resiliency have become essential considerations for all new and existing projects in our land use industry. Government agencies and the private sector are working to align policy and action to ensure that the industry meets its goals for a healthier and more sustainable future. While policy and technological solutions already exist to solve many of the largest contributors to climate change and pollution, many questions remain about how to enact, fund, and implement many of them to meet Net Zero targets.
Mission
This council will share knowledge on general climate and sustainability best practices and innovations – including New York’s sustainability and climate goals and policies – and will work to understand the range of solutions to support advocacy and action for policymakers, public agencies, and private sector leaders in real estate and land use.
Topics will range from New York City’s Local Law 97 implementation, to embodied carbon, to major urban infrastructure projects, to resiliency planning and sustainable design.
Goals & Objectives
This Council will cultivate land use leaders who are
- Working on fundamental sustainability-related organizational change
- Looking for innovative solutions to thorny problems around sustainable development
- Learning about the systems that contribute to emissions – and are working to mitigate them
- Striving to help their organizations meet climate and sustainability goals
- looking for support in subject matter advocacy
